America and France celebrate their respective independence days, and it’s the perfect time to enjoy the outdoors with family and friends.
This month on iledefrancecheese.com
, we’re focused on grilling – and gourmet cheese, of course – with easy, no-hassle recipes for BBQ sandwiches and burgers. We’ve added several new recipes that you can try at home, perfect for packing in a picnic lunch or while enjoying a sunset on the patio.
In the Cheese
of the Month
section you’ll learn all you need to know about Ile
de France Brie
, one of the most popular bries in the United States. 70 years ago we brought into America the first Brie on the first refrigerator equipped ocean liner - Ile de France (hence the origin of the name). Often referred to as “the Queen of cheeses,” our Brie is soft and creamy, enveloped by a downy white rind. Americans were instantly captivated by this buttery-smooth French delicacy, and to this day the love affair continues.
Grilling season also means beer season! Our pairing advice this month focuses on what frosty brews go best with our mouth-watering BBQ recipes and gourmet cheeses.
We’ve also added a new How To article – this time on cutting cheese. In the past months we’ve provided tips on storing and wrapping your cheese, but how do you cut that prized gourmet fromage, and what utensils are best for carving up the many different types of cheese? Find out right here!
In addition, there’s a video recipe featuring tangy, tasty Ile
de France Goat cheese
, and this month we’re rolling out the red carpet for a “cheese-troduction.” Ossau Iraty
, with its Protected Designation of Origin, a pressed sheep’s milk cheese from Pays Basque, France, makes its debut on the site. A mellow semi-hard cheese, Ossau Iraty has a fragrance reminiscent of toasted hazelnuts and fruits, and pairs perfectly with sweet produce, cured meats, crusty bread and a bottle of red wine, like a Bordeaux.
Yes, we’re pulling out all the stops this July – a time to gather your friends and loved ones to partake in all that summer has to offer: satisfying food, refreshing drinks and plenty of glorious sunshine.
