Brie en Croute
PROFILE

Ile de France Brie en Croute is warm, melted Brie cheese covered in a crisp, flaky pastry crust. It’s an elegant appetizer or dessert that is sure to impress your guests with its pretty presentation and delicious flavor. Available in the frozen section of grocery stores, you can also create your own Brie en Croute with a homemade pastry crust and wedge of Ile de France Brie.

HISTORY

The history and heritage of the Ile de France Cheese brand distinguishes its Brie en Croute, with it’s hailed Brie wrapped in a buttery and light pastry crust. Ile de France Brie has a buttery-rich, mild and creamy paste with subtle notes of mushroom and hazelnuts that makes a perfect compliment to sweet and savory accompaniments.

TIPS/PREPARATION

To make your original Brie en Croute, all you need is a wedge of Brie and some puff pastry. You can buy premade frozen puff pastry or make your own from scratch. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees and follow the directions to thaw the pastry sheet, roll it out to a square and place the Brie in the center of the pastry. Layer your favorite jam, fruit or nuts and fold the pastry up so that it encloses the Brie, smoothing down the seams and trimming off excess dough. For a beautiful golden crust, coat with egg wash and bake for about 20 minutes or until the pastry turns golden brown. Let it cool for about 10 minutes and serve!

You can create your own unique Brie en Croute with chocolate, fruits, sugar or any ingredient that you think will balance the earthy and creamy Brie. When serving an assortment of crackers, tart fruit such as apples or grapes on a simple serving dish will look stunning and win over your guests’ taste buds.

Sorry I took so long. This gives the general idea. The last one I used sauteed mushrooms and onions in some butter and put on top of the cheese before I baked it. I've also used apricot jam and a sprinkle of slivered almonds. Depends on whether you want savory or sweet. It's truly simple. I use the frozen Pillsbury puff pastry. They tell you how to soften the pastry before you lay it out. It's with the frozen pies and piecrusts. Love, B
