Potatoes are a common food all over the world and in all sorts of cuisines. They make perfect pairings with almost everything: meat, mushrooms, vegetables, sauces and more. Even simple pairings like herbs and baked potatoes make for fabulous flavor.

So it’s no surprise that potatoes are fantastic with cheese also!

From simple boiled potatoes to colorful salads or pies, potatoes and cheese are a fantastic pair. Take for example this zesty Warm & Zesty Grilled Potato Salad with Saint Albray. The Saint Albray undoubtedly goes wonderfully with the hearty grilled potato flavor and texture.

December 16th is National Chocolate-Covered Anything Day

Even an old shoe would taste good dipped in chocolate!

National Chocolate-Covered Anything Day is coming up soon! All American chocoholics should celebrate December 16th by eating chocolate-covered treats, getting and giving chocolate as a gift and making unusual chocolate recipes at home!

A great way to celebrate National Chocolate-Covered Anything day with friends and family is by hosting a “chocolate” party. You can serve everything from chocolate fondue to sushi under chocolate.

This is the day to try chocolate on something you would never even think of. Or you can be more traditional and treat your guests delicious well-known combinations like chocolate and cheese!

Take our Chocolate-Dipped Berries & Etorki Cheese recipe, for example. The chocolate, cheese and fruit pairings will amaze you with a unique and juicy flavor!

Taco Shells Out of Cheese

Yesterday we got a very intriguing question from our Twitter follower Elizabeth (@JMZNLIZ)! The question was: “can you make taco shells out of cheese? Do you know how?” And you know what? We were stuck!

Traditionally taco shells are made out of flour or corn. Of course there is some modern ways to make taco shells, for example, oats, rice, garbanzo beans make distinctive substitutes for traditional taco shells.

Some brief online research  also revealed that taco shells made with cheese are actually quite popular. A number of people have generously shared their cheese taco shells recipes on blogs and recipe sites. Brian Davis’s Food.com article  “Low Carb Taco Shells” looks especially delicious and is also easy to make!

All you need is to melt a slice of cheese in a microwave for approximately one or two minutes, which forms a Taco shell while the cheese is still flexible. The author used Cheddar cheese in his recipe but you can use any cheese that melts easily. For example Fol Epi or Comté and other pressed cooked cheese work well and are mild yet flavorful.

So now we all know the simple secret of cheese taco shells and can easily surprise our friends by treating them with especially cheesy home made tacos!

The week was hot and the weekend will be even hotter!

Refresh yourself with the combination of summer fruits and gourmet cheese!

Summer-friendly cheeses bring out the natural sweetness of summer fruits such as melons and peaches. Berries are the perfect “summer dress” for a wedge of cool, creamy Ile de France Brie. Fresh or tossed with sugar until syrupy – serve your choice of ripe strawberries, blueberries and raspberries over the Brie for a sweet snack or a dessert. Make sure to use only a thin slice of cheese so as not to overwhelm the taste of the fruit.

When days are hot, it is time for light, refreshing and simple meals! French cheeses can be enjoyed in many ways with summer snacks.

If you’re like most people, you may have never thought about pairing ice cream with cheese. The combination sounds unusual – but is surprisingly delicious. Serving ice cream with cheese is a great way to get your guests talking and trying something new. Since the combination will be a first-time experience for most, it is sure to be a moment of gourmet delight!

Create a mild dessert by pairing brie or camembert with a vanilla or coffee ice cream. If you feel like having a more rich dessert, pair it with chocolate ice cream. The combination of the creaminess of brie or camembert and the cool, refreshing texture of ice cream is a delicious contrast.

You can even go one step further by making your own custom cheese ice cream like our St. André Gelato with plum Beaujolais compote.
