Cheesy April Fools’ Day

Whether you like it or not, people around the world play all kinds of jokes on April 1st.

Even though the origins of April Fools’ Day are still uncertain, one possible explanation comes from France. Looking back to the Middle Ages France celebrated New Year’s Day on March 25th ending on April 1st. In 1582, France adopted a new calendar ordered by Pope Gregory XII which made New Year’s Day move from March 25th to January 1st. Many people refused to accept the change or didn’t learn about it and kept celebrating on April 1st. As a result other people made fun of these traditionalists and fooled them into believing something false.
