Winning Dessert from Naylet

Wednesday, February 2nd, 2011

Naylet recently shared the story of her dessert recipe, which was awarded best dessert by our judges in the Cheese Lover’s Challenge Recipe Contest.

526-brie and guava pillows with orange

I was so happy to hear that my recipe “Brie and Guava Pillows with Orange-Scented
White Chocolate Drizzle” was selected as Best Dessert in the Ile de France Cheese
Lover’s Challenge!!! This concept for this recipe stemmed from the most special
childhood memories.

Growing up, my grandmother would always prepare an afterschool snack of crackers with guava and cream cheese. This flavor combination always tasted
like heaven to me. I can remember sitting in class and thinking of the grand tasting
experience that was to come. The school day could never end soon enough!!!!!

Now, fast forward to the present…..what better way to elevate this flavor combination to a whole new level, than to substitute the cream cheese with brie cheese! For this recipe, I wanted to showcase the delicious creaminess of Ile de France Brie Cheese, so I paired it with one of my most favorite foods…guava!

The savoriness of the brie combines perfectly with the sweet, fragrant guava. Encase these two gems in a small, pillow of dough that has been fried for a very brief time, and the result is a memorable dessert that is easy, simple, and impressive.

To heighten the depth of flavor, a melted white chocolate and added a hint of orange to drizzle over the warm pillows. When I create them, I make sure to drizzle the chocolate while the pillows are still warm so that the white chocolate melts ever-so-slightly over the top of these crispy treats.
